Anthony Ferarra Oil on Canvas Landscape Paintings
Landscapes are not my usual choice when looking for work to add to the collection. But the simple nature of the subject matter and the striking use of color made the paintings of Anthony Ferrara stand out amongst dozens of other paintings.
Landscapes often aim to impress with a grand vista or idylic locale. These canvases are all happy to focus on a small patch of square footage not too terribly unique or noteworthy. Ferrara's use of color to convey light and shadow is what one notices.
Maybe he was painting at night and the light being cast from street lights was likely his muse? Maybe he was in a parking lot or looking out a window? What i appreciate is that his eye is clearly focused on the things we are trained not to see. We see light and dark. We see a tree that is green and a rock that is brown. That is what we've been taught. An artist sees with an eye that has no expectations.
