Vittorio Zecchin was born on the island of Murano. His family worked in the glass furnaces. Vittorio first studied painting and had a tapestry studio. He was greatly influenced by the artists of the Vienna Secessionist movement. In 1914, Zecchin presented a small group of mosaic glass pieces at the Venice Biennale, with the collaboration of Artisti Barovier. By 1918 he had begun to create his own glass collection, inspired by classic forms without ornament. In 1921, he became the artistic director of newly formed Vetri Soffati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & C. It was in the furnaces of VSM Cappellin Venini & C. where his genius and craft emerged.
