Washington Ledesma Goddess Vase
The work of Uruguayan artist Washington Ledesma is inspired by his playful spirit and classical training. He studied fine arts in Montevideo, Uruguay, at the Bauhaus inspired School of Fine Arts. Political unrest in his home country prompted a move to New York City in 1973, where he worked in a factory on the lower east side recreating old masters paintings. He began his work in clay shortly after, bringing with him the iconography and symbolism of the masterworks he had been studying.
He moved to Martha's Vineyard, where he continues to create his colorful ceramics and oil paintings. This vase depicts a goddess and celebrates vitality and creation. I am drawn to his ancient themes and pop art aesthetic. 8" x 4"
